Storytime Outline

I work in a busy branch of a pretty big urban library system. This means I usually have between 60-80 parents and babies, toddlers, or preschoolers for each storytime session. The format I use for storytime definitely reflects that. We have 4 types of storytime at my branch:

  • Baby Toddler Storytime (Ages 0-2)
  • Preschool Storytime (Ages 3-5)
  • Spanish Storytime (Ages 0-5)
  • Family Storytime (Ages 0-12)

Here is an of outline what I usually do. Although I use this outline for all 4 types of storytime I do, the content, types of songs and rhymes, and length varies depending on the intended audience.

My Basic Storytime Outline
Opening Songs
Shape Game or Mouse in House
Longest Book
Song/Fingerplay/Rhyme Break
Second Book or Flannel Story
Song/Dance Break
Third Book
Goodbye Songs
